Our Mission:

The church has grown and the present hall cannot accommodate the ever-increasing congregation. The Pastor and his wife, both trained workers, shepherd the flock. Three Lay Pastors and seven Trainee Workers help this couple in the ministry. The ministry here is an all-round ministry with active Youth Ministries, Children’s Ministries, Women’s Ministries and Men’s Ministries helping to cater to the growing congregation.

This church has evolved into a Cell Ministry and this Prayer Cell structure promotes believers to participate in evangelism and discipling ministries. Fellowships, Prayer, Evangelism, Disicpling, Teaching the Word etc. are carried out in the prayer cells in a uniformed manner.

Threats of Persecutions:

This church, like other rural churches in Sri Lanka, is facing persecution from the Buddhist extremists in the country. There is threat to life of pastor and workers, threat to the buildings and new believers. All church is in prayer for only our Lord can protect us from these elements, but the work is going on and personal evangelism and deliverance ministry will go on.

A few churches in the nearby areas were already attacked and warnings have been sent to us that we could be attacked at any moment. The country is going through a politically ‘power vacuum’ period and little could be expected by way of state protection. The attackers have systematically searched for documents giving particulars of ministries, ministers and new believers in the churches they have attacked. It is believed that highly qualified intellectuals are behind this terror campaign against the rural churches in Sri Lanka. As a matter of safety, all documents of importance are being kept in safe places and this document too will be transferred to an outside computer for the present until the threat passes.

Our Vision:

The current wave of persecutions will bring in many new souls to the Kingdom of God and we could anticipate a surge of sinners getting converted in the aftermath of these persecutions. Our assembly too should mend her nets and be prepared to catch the ‘fish’.

The seven Trainee Timotheans and the few more who have opted to come for fulltime ministry will be trained to take over responsibility of shepherding the believers in a systematical manner. These workers will be stationed in ‘safe house churches’ in strategic geographical areas throughout the Greater Avissawella area. These centers will help the believers to gather in their locality for fellowship, worship, shepherding of new believers, Bible studies etc. under the guidance of the trained workers. These worship centers will one day grow to be satellite churches of this church for the glory of our Lord!

Anointed teachers will conduct morning classes during the weekdays to prepare the candidates for this ministry.

Seminars will be organized periodically to trains Prayer Cell Leaders, Sunday School Teachers, Lay Leaders etc.

Camps will be held to motivate and promote the youth to witness to the ‘lost youth’ of their generation.

Believers will be motivated to do “Oikos” evangelism in the prayer cells and in their neighborhood thus reaching their relatives, friends and neighbors for Christ. Women’s Ministries will encourage their women to take major part in the house churches as of the first century Priscilla, Phoebe, Orcas and others. Men’s Fellowship will motivate the men of the houses to be more active in giving Lay Leadership to the ministry of the church.

Extend the present church building to house the ever-increasing worshippers.

God’s Move:

It is coincidental, but definitely God ordained, that the present pastor (shall I correctly say ‘Under Shepherd’ as Jesus is the Chief Shepherd – I Pet.5: 4) was the baby on the lap of the young mother at the pioneers’ home during the 1940 Floods in Yatiyantota.

Matter for Prayer and Action:

Thus this little church in Puwakpitiya, a hamlet of the Avissawella area, has given much to the Kingdom of God. It is now expecting the citizens of the Kingdom, spread throughout the world, to extend support financially, spiritually and morally to build an extension hall to accommodate the numerically ever-growing church. This little rural church, thus far depending on archaic facilities and outdated musical and public address systems, needs to improve the facilities and keep abreast with the new technologies available.
